This blog is the spiritual successor to my popular “Know Your Rights” column, which ran\u00a0 in the Fall River and Taunton newspapers for many years.\u00a0 That column provided general information on a variety of legal topics,\u00a0 especially landlord-tenant, public benefits, and family law issues that would be helpful to people of moderate incomes.<\/p>\n

In the years since the newspaper discontinued my column, I have oriented my practice toward consumer protection law, including remedies for defective used cars, fraudulent financing schemes, mortgage foreclosure,\u00a0 improper credit reporting, and unfair debt collection.\u00a0\u00a0 In the course of representing people in their problems at the intersection of law and commerce, I have been\u00a0 struck by how hard it is for an ordinary person without a legal background to understand important financial transactions before <\/em>becoming committed to them.\u00a0 So, the main focus of this blog will be how some laws help you protect your interests in the jungle of the marketplace, while others make it harder for you to do so.<\/p>\n

This blog is not about financial literacy per se.<\/em> It will not duplicate existing information sources about budgeting, improving your credit score, etc.<\/p>\n

This blog is intended solely to convey information and not to sell or advertise anything except for my own legal services.\u00a0\u00a0 I welcome all posted comments of a general nature.\u00a0 If you wish to contact me for possible legal representation, please send an e-mail\u00a0 or make a phone call.<\/p>\n
